In 15 years, The Red Bull Music Academy has grown into true institution. Her series of world traveling festivals, lectures, studio sessions and expositions has been changing the way we look at- and feel about music for years now. It’s ultimate objective? Offering a stage to all those renowned artists that make a difference in their local and international scenes through studio sessions, workshops exhibitions and live performances. Foremost the Academy completely revolves around the exchange of musical knowledge and inspiration. The Amsterdam Session will be hosted together with partners Rewire, Mary Go Wild, and Melkweg and the line-up includes world known artists such as Buraka Som Sistema, Branko, Mumdance & Pinch, Om Unit, DJ Marfox, DJ Paypal, Jameszoo and Lakker.

Buraka Som Sistema’s Branko will host an exclusive Red Bull Music Academy lecture at the Red Bull Studios in Amsterdam. Prior to the ‘farewell show’ he and his band will give on Thursday at the Melkweg – the creative force behind Buraka Som Sistema (photo) will take his time not only for a lecture, but also for a Q&A.

Mary Go Wild, who’s been closely involved in last year’s RBMA Bass Camp, will once again be the host of a special photo exhibition. The exposition called ‘Beyond the Noise’ offers and intimate insight in the backstage lives of artists. What happens when the show curtains fall or in those extreme last moments right before a show? Those moments have been captured in an authentically raw way to offer those seeing the photos an honest insight in the backstage lives of artists.

There’s not one specific genre that describes the co creations of Mumdance & Pinch (photo) adequately. If you listen closely, you’ll be seduced by all kinds of influences that derive from everything from techno grime, drum & bass to hardcore. Their versatile diversity and all those years of experience will guarantee this hands-on workshop with these UK heavyweights and extremely interesting one for those participating.

The energetic and unmistakable signature sound of Buraka Som Sistema has brought this artist collective all of the world in the last ten years. Now, more than 800 shows and a massive amount of releases later, it’s time for a well-deserved sabbatical. They’re hitting the touring road one very last time together with their friends from the Enchufada label. Expect an eclectic mix of hiphop, funk, grime, dancehall and African Kuduro but foremost a farewell show that every aficionado should not miss out on.

Right after Buraka Som Sistema, Melkweg will be hosting an RBMA club night, with (photo) and. All those music lovers who were part of last year’s RBMA club night in the Volkshotel know that this particular line-up not only offers a one of kind experience, but is rarely seen in the Amsterdam clubbing scene and perfectly reflects the diversity that RBMA stands for.

During the very last day of the Amsterdam Session true producing music lovers will eat their heart out during an extremely special ‘experimental sampling’ workshop led by experimental techno duo Lakker – whose 2015 Tundra took techno production and sampling to new heights. The workshop, which will be facilitated by RE:VIVE (The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision) is meant as the ultimate way to broaden and deepen the way use their samples.

“Experimental sampling’ is a way to analyse little pieces of data to retrieve as much info as possible from them. The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision has compiled an exclusive sample pack of 150 samples – some of those dating back to the 30’s of the last century. From field to TV and radio recordings: all samples have been recorded in Amsterdam, offering some true colour locale to this once-in-a-lifetime workshop. The perfect catalyst for those producers wanting to push themselves a little further.
