Listen: Keeley Forsyth releases The Hollow

10 May 2024

A mainstay of British primetime television since the mid-90s, Keeley Forsyth debuted her distinct, weighty style of music in 2020 with album Debris on The Leaf Label. Out now on FatCat subsidiary label 130701, The Hollow (2024) expands on Forsyth’s exceptional aural worldbuilding – evident to any who wander into range of her unique voice. It moves her signature sound into the electronic realm, and features a stunning collaboration with Colin Stetson. At Rewire 2024, Forsyth presented the world premiere of The Hollow in a live A/V show at Grote Kerk with visuals by director and video artist Netia Jones.

Considering that she cites influences such as playwright Samuel Beckett, director Bela Tarr, and choreographer Pina Bausch, it is no surprise that her performances are strikingly physical displays just as they are demonstrations of her singular voice. Her songs – developed further across her follow-ups, EP Photograph (2020) and album Limbs (2022) – delve under the veneer of everyday life to consider the often-hidden darkness beneath, seeking to unearth life’s underlying truths and motivations.
